How to Take Zyrtec for Allergies


Visit your doctor to discuss your allergies and get prescription for Zyrtec. adult form of medication is available as tablets, chewables or syrup. Children from 6 months of age and older can take Zyrtec syrup and chewable tablets are approved for children older than 2 years old.


Ask your doctor for prescription for Zyrtec-D if you need decongestant in addition to antihistamine in order to combat your allergies. This is extended-release form of drug that is effective for 12 hours.


Follow dosage instructions exactly as they are written. Some forms of Zyrtec are taken once daily, while others can be split up and taken twice day. Ask your doctor or pharmacist questions about dosage if you have any doubt about it.


Put your Zyrtec in closed cabinet or on high shelf, where animals and children cannot reach it. Keep it away from light, heat and moisture to maintain effectiveness of drug.


Avoid taking doses of Zyrtec too close together. If you forget dose, take it when you remember it. If it is almost time to take another dose, take single dose rather than doubling up on medication.
